Torrevieja Things To Do

Torrevieja Sights

Throughout the coastal city of Torrevieja and its surrounding areas visitors will find a whole range of fun and interesting things to do. Whereas some choose a seaside holiday destination purely to relax and unwind, spend days on the beach enjoying the sun and sample a few bars and restaurants in the evenings, others want to get the most they can out of their holiday, and Torrevieja is the perfect destination. Situated less than an hour’s drive from the busy international airport of Alicante and 30 minutes from Murcia-San Javier airport, both offering car hire and taxis, makes Torrevieja easy to get to.

With its 2 large salt lakes, the area has been recognised as having one of the healthiest climates in the world and boasts over 320 days of sunshine per year.

Salt Lakes

The beautiful salt lakes that give Torrevieja it’s healthy climate provide an important ecosystem and are home to a wonderful variety of flora & fauna, including pink flamingos. With more than 100 bird species as well as various fish and reptile species, the salt lakes and surrounding countryside are a favourite with nature lovers and birdwatchers. Just an hour’s drive from the city is the picturesque mountain area of Guadalest Valley and the stunning Algar Waterfalls which are easy to combine on a day trip. For those not wishing to drive there are various day and night coach trips to these and other fantastic destinations. Aside from sea fishing keen anglers can visit the Torremendo Lake which is less than a 15 minute drive and has a variety of fish species and many places to enjoy a BBQ or picnic.

Blue Flag Beaches

Torrevieja has 5 main beaches to choose from that are regularly awarded Blue Flag status, all with fine golden sand that is cleaned nightly and excellent beach facilities such as lifeguard towers, beach and watersports, parasol and sunbed hire, disability access and plenty of nearby bars and restaurants. There is jet ski hire, parasailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and the latest craze, flyboarding but being a new water sport activity, expect to pay quite a bit for the privilege. All along Torrevieja coastline there are reefs and coves with excellent water clarity where snorkelling is popular, and at various dive shops in the city visitors can book scuba diving trips and courses. Sailing courses, kayaking adventures and deep sea fishing trips can also be booked in the harbour area or just ask at your hotel’s reception desk.
